Diplomatic mega-events generate expectations, curiosities and criticisms from both individuals and social groups who find their place in the instituted arenas of international governance, as well as from outsiders. The ongoing momentum of events in Nice stages such dynamics as they relate to ocean diplomacy. This session proposes a moment of collective, open reflection about the conditions under which the ocean is being publicized. It offers to discuss experiences on how to observe and critically approach these buzzy and orchestrated scientific-diplomatic moments.
