ODIPE organizes a dialogue on the UNOC in the Green Zone

This week, the Odipe collective has been to organize an exchange during the One Ocean Science Congress (OOSC). On this occasion, we’d like to draw inspiration from our idea of a Town Hall not selected by the OOSC, and discuss with you the unclassifiable event that is the UNOC.
This exchange will take place at Agora Neptune of The Whale (Exhibition Centre, Nice) on Friday June 6 from 10.15am to 11am. We’ll be talking to a number of participating researchers who are also asking questions about their UNOC experience.

We welcome :

  • Alix Levain – Research scientist, CNRS, GDR OMER
  • Roberto Casati – Research scientist, CNRS
  • Clément Astruc Delor – Ocean Diplomacy Ethnographers’ Group (ODIPE), PhD Student, University of Tasmania / ENS
  • Brian O’Neill – Post-doc, University of Washington
  • Rhea Thoppil – Ecop Insider, PhD Student, Sorbonne University
  • Pedro de la Patellière – Ecop Insider, PhD Student, University of Algarve

At the end of this exchange, a report will be shared with you on this site.

Abstract:

Diplomatic mega-events arouse expectations, curiosities and criticisms from individuals and social groups who find their place in the arenas instituted by international governance, as well as from outside. The ongoing dynamic of the Nice events highlights some of the dynamics associated with ocean diplomacy. This session proposes a moment of collective and open reflection on the conditions under which the ocean is made public. It proposes to discuss experiences on how to observe and critically approach these ebullient and orchestrated scientific-diplomatic moments.
